Today’s Resource Discovery is a guide for services providers utilizing Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) for service providers in their work with female veterans. According to the United State Interagency Council on Homelessness, female veterans are four times more likely to experience homelessness than their civilian counterparts. The Council explains that female veterans may have difficulty readjusting to civilian life due to traumas that occurred during military service, such as military sexual trauma. Military sexual trauma impacts one in every five women who serve, making it important for practitioners to be aware of TIC best practices.
The Department of Labor created Trauma-Informed Care for Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness guide for service providers. This 84 page document provides detailed information about the Homeless Women Veterans Project, implementation of trauma-informed care best practices, a self-assessment for providers and their organization, and a detailed resources list.
